What Print & Publishing tools can do for you

2 tools listed

The print and publishing tools help with the calculations and preparation behind printed material. Work out bleed and crop mark dimensions from a finished size, convert between pixel size, DPI and print size, convert paper weight units, and estimate print cost from page and copy counts.

For booklets, calculate the spine width and cover size of a perfect-bound book, plan page layout and imposition for saddle-stitched and perfect-bound formats, and impose a PDF with blank page padding and page numbers. Before you submit, check a PDF's trim size, bleed, resolution and font embedding together.

For small runs and events, calculate price points and break-even quantities from print cost, and create printable templates for badges, fan signs and name or place cards. The numbers are general guides, so follow your printer's own specifications.

Print & Publishing: frequently asked questions

Q. Can I use the spine width result as is?
A. Paper thickness differs by stock and printer, so the result is an estimate. Always check the calculator or template that your printer provides.
Q. What are bleed and crop marks?
A. Bleed is extra artwork that extends past the trim line so no white edge appears if the cut shifts. Crop marks show where to cut. The size calculator shows the working dimensions.
